Inside of one Management system all priorities must be segmented, defined and periodically reassessed.

Year after year a company can change its strategy, perhaps even its positioning within the market to which it belongs. For this reason, it is important that the Senior Management together with the fronts involved, carry out Critical Analysis regularly within the environment.

The understanding of the definition of criteria in order to identify weaknesses and points to be improved is positive, as well as the practice of audits. The evaluation of a company opens paths and chances for positive points and correction / mitigation of negative points, in order to add self-knowledge about what may or may not affect the business in question in any way.

Matrices usually evaluated

The assessment of an environment can happen from filling in a form SWOT matrix or from using the Business Model Canvas.

Commonly, there is a preference for the use of SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).

This matrix allows the top management to have an internal view of their strengths and weaknesses, evaluating everything that is “inside the house” and that may impact their services. It is possible to evaluate threats and opportunities in the growth of the brand externally, adding factors related to everything that the company cannot control such as competitors, natural disasters, factors of the economic and political market.

An SWOT matrix well structured allows the company to have a vision of the role it plays within the market to which it belongs and is developed precisely so that the company has a technical vision about its business in an intuitive and objective way so that it can create conclusions and, from that , action plans to increase the maturity level of the environment. Below is an example of this model:

The structure of Business Model Canvas despite having a different proposal than SWOT matrix, leads us to a similar result, the broader view on the company's business proposal.

However, Canvas, in turn, has nine blocks composed of themes such as value proposition, customer segment, delivery channels, customer relationship, key activity, main resources, main partnerships, sources of revenue and cost structure; these blocks represent the company's conceptualization. Canvas in turn, it does not clearly show the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats possibly identified, but after completing the blocks, it is possible to have an overview of the business objectives, as shown in the example below:

Is this activity necessary?

Yes! Regardless of the model chosen, the main point of this evaluation is, together with the Senior Management, to Critical Analysis periodic evaluations of the environment and assess whether the previously defined strategies remain coherent, assess the need to implement technological solutions and action plans to mitigate possible damage caused by identified weaknesses thereby enabling the increase in maturity of the assessed environment and continuous improvement.
