The World Wide Web can be a dangerous place and technology increases it & #8217; s only getting worse. Every day we log onto various websites and use our personal information to interact with friends and family, buy items off sites like Amazon, store contact information on our phones, and even online banking is commonplace. If someone were to come along and hack all of our accounts it could make our lives very difficult if not wreck us completely. We try to be careful, we try not to click on strange emails, or download files from strange places, or other unsafe things, but even the best of us slip up from time to time. The truth is most of us have been hacked at one time or another whether we know it or not. It seems like the hacking is getting worse as the years go by.

Last year was no stranger to cybercrime. In fact, we saw some of the biggest attacks in history. Political parties like the DNC, major hosting providers like Dyn, and even adult themed dating sites like AdultFriendFinder were hacked. It seemed like no one was safe from the world's greatest cyber criminals. Even now in the aftermath of these attacks we really don't know a lot about the criminals responsible. Some have come forward to claim responsibility while most remain anonymous. Meanwhile, sites like Linkedin, Tumbler, and Yahoo are being broken into and our personal information is being stolen. This information is often sold on Blackmarket sites to people who use it for identity theft and other cyber crimes.

We need to start taking steps to protect ourselves and step one is learning about what is going on. The infographic below has the details on just a few of the major attacks of 2016.

Do you know about more attacks that happened in 2016 or early this year?
